Michael J. Culkin was admitted to the State of Connecticut and Federal Court Bars in 2001. He was educated at the University of Connecticut (B.S., 1996, cum laude) and received his Law Degree from University of Connecticut School of Law in 2001 as well as earning his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut Graduate School of Business in 2001 (concentration in Accounting)

 

While attending Law and Business School, Attorney Culkin worked full time as a manager for Aetna in their Law and Regulatory Affairs Division where he was responsible for third-party compliance.  Following his graduation he worked as a State and Local Tax lawyer for PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP in their NY-Metro division.   

 

In 2004, Attorney Culkin entered private practice by partnering with Attorney Jason McCoy and successfully handled many high-end personal injury matters before juries.  Punctuating his success, Attorney Culkin earned his client a multi-million dollar settlement from a preeminent medical hospital in 2007.   

 

Later in 2007, Attorney Culkin established The Culkin Law Office based out of Waterbury, Connecticut. He has since devoted his practice primarily to Divorce, Child Protection and Bankruptcy.  As a Divorce Lawyer, Attorney Culkin has represented clients in nearly every court in Connecticut.  He is particularly known for using his background in accounting and tax to further assist his clients in obtaining the best resolution possible. 

 

With respects to Child Protection, Attorney Culkin has handled hundreds of neglect and termination of parental rights cases, representing both parents and children.  Attorney Culkin is knowledgeable about the workings of the Department of Children and Families and has developed a strong rapport with the social workers, attorneys and court staff involved in these matters.  

 

Attorney Culkin has successfully handled hundreds of Bankruptcies.  In 2019, Attorney Culkin was personally selected and tasked by the Connecticut Bar Association to provide trainingand instruction to other attorneys on the multitude of ways that Bankruptcy law  intersects with other aspects of Family Law. 

 

Attorney Culkin is a lifelong Connecticut resident.  Originally from Waterbury, he later graduated from Pomperaug High School.  Attorney Culkin has a personable style and is dedicated to helping his clients through their most difficult times.  He is the father of girl-boy twins who are currently attending college at UCONN and the University of Denver.  He has been married over 20 years to Dr. Kimberly Culkin who is an administrator for the Bristol Public School system and teaches Leadership at the Neag School of Education at UCONN.  Attorney Culkin is an amateur woodworker and has recently assisted his son on a total restoration of an old 4runner.
